To Promote the Public Health:
Michigan law directs state and local governments to safeguard the public's health. To fulfill this responsibility the Iron County Health Department was established in 1936, the Dickinson County Health Department was established in 1937, and in 1953 the two departments consolidated.
Governing Authority:
The Dickinson-Iron District Board of Health is the governing entity for the Department. This authority is derived from Act 368 of the Public Acts of 1978; the Michigan Public Health Code.
