Substance Abuse Prevention Program

The program is available to both students and adults within our communities. The Botvin’s LifeSkills curriculum is used for 6th, 7th & 8th graders in our counties and Guiding Good Choices for adults. The program collaborates with our local Communities that Care Coalition for substance abuse prevention activities and also brings awareness to the suicide issue and helps “break” the stigma associated with mental illness, substance abuse and suicide.

New Points

New Points is a Syringe Service Program (SSP) that offers “harm reduction” techniques for IV drug users to help lower Hepatitis C rates. The U.P. rates are higher compared to the state of Michigan as a whole relative to population. SSPs have been proven effective in reducing Hep C prevalence by as much as 50%. In addition, SSP participants are up to 5 times more likely to access substance use disorder and recovery services than people who don’t utilize SSPs.
